You have probably seen this by now. The preacher who prayed at the Nashville NASCAR Race last weekend. Thanked God for his "smokin hot wife." Seriously.
Now I am a Ricky Bobby fan as much as the next guy. I have the film memorized. So I get the humor.
And I understand the thrill of praying before 43 cars start their 800 HP engines in front of 100,000 people. I had fun praying at Talladega and Atlanta races myself.
But when asked why he said this, the pastor said he hoped to get the attention of folks in the stands. He succeeded in that. I just never realized that prayers were intended to impress people or get their attention. Always figured they were intended for God. At least I hope so.

“I want to get somebody’s attention, so that’s been our desire every time we’ve been up there, to try to make an impact on the fans and give them something they’ll remember, and maybe they’ll go home on a Friday night or a Saturday night and say, 'Maybe I ought to get up and go to church in the morning,'" Nelms said.
Notice the absence of the words "God," "Jesus" or anything else resembling the Divine. How does one discuss prayer without God? This was a "prayer" from, about, and for people, not God.
It was probably one of the most genuine prayers we have heard in a setting like that. I gotta believe this prayer was more in the vein of the Tax Collector than all the other Pharisee prayers we have heard via Fox on Sunday afternoons.
Seriously, that's the part you object to? Not the fact that he included blatant advertising in his prayers (as Jesus supposedly said, you cannot serve both God and Mammon)? Not the fact that Jesus specifically said not to pray in public like the hypocrites?
If that were so, he'd have gone into his closet to pray and not have done it in front of 100,000 people anyway.
Not to mention that it was most likely a lie, as I cannot really imagine a "smoking hot" woman marrying that guy.
Not to mention all the various sponsors of the race...
I don't know how genuine it was. After all, all he did was to quote a hit movie from a few years ago.
Besides, do we know what his supposedly hot wife looks like? Somehow, given what he looks like and that he is a pastor I seriously doubt his wife's hotness.
You really had no problem with him having blatant sponsor advertisements as part of his prayer? That was the worst part of this prayer as far as I am concerned.
Real Christian remark there Mr Hunt. Teaches a great lesson to the audience. Hey everyone. Fat jokes are fine.
Hope you loose lots of listeners. K BYE!
Actually she looks much better than I expected.
