In 1887, the Christ Child Society was founded in Washington, D.C. by Miss Mary Virginia Merrick. Mary was confined to a wheelchair after a terrible fall. That didn’t stop her from doing God’s work, however. She spent her time sewing infant’s clothing for needy children and encouraging friends and family to do the same. From her spirit and dedication, the Christ Child Society was born. There are currently over 7,000 members nationwide with 39 chapters in 17 states and in Washington, D.C. The Christ Child Society of Atlanta is the first chapter in Georgia. We represent the growing need to serve the underprivileged children in our major cities.
