Beck's Faith v. Obama's Faith

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Glenn Beck's rally this weekend looked more like a church revival than a rally - but I talked enough about that last night. But what I find fascinating is that Beck and Obama both have the same problem: they see their faith through their politics, where as they should see their politics through their faith. But in the end, I am more likely to side with Obama's Christian faith becuase even though I disagree with a lot of it, at least it is a CHRISTIAN faith. Glenn Beck is wading into waters he doesn't understand, and the problem is the masses seem to be following him as if he is the next Billy Graham.

Gravatar.com Couldn't disagree with you more regarding Beck's rally. What is wrong asking people to be the best they can be, asking us to pray and to pray for the president and congress, to be good to each other, without ever mentioning any religion of any kind? Do you think 500,000+ people would come from all over the states on a Sat. in Aug. to hear you? As far as the remark about the rally not being of any consequence in later years, how can you make that statement? Do you know how many people were inspired to do better in their lives and will become better human beings and citizens? Do you know how many kids attending will always remember how inspiring it was for their parents and, as a consequence be better people themselves? Of course there were many attending who disagree with president Obama. He and his administration are the reason so many of us are afraid where our USA is heading and are anxious about the future of our kids. I sometimes listen to you in the evenings and have felt you come across as someone who thinks he knows it all and who tries too hard to be"cool". After hearing what you had to say about the rally without even knowing everything that was said inforces my opinion.

Gravatar.com The dictionary definition of a christian is "a person who believes in and follows Jesus Christ". I believe that mormons do just this even if I don't agree with many of their other beliefs. I am not a mormon but I don't know how you can say that mormons aren't christians. You don't have to have a degree in something to educate yourself on a subject. My grandfather started a business with nothing. WHen he retired it was worth millions. The only formal education he had ended in 8th grade but he took it upon himself to educate himself. I would like to hear your reasoning behind this belief, other than "nobody thinks that mormons are christians". It is easy to make a statement if you are not willing to debate it. I guess I could say you are not a talk radio host since you won't let anyone whose opinions differ from yours actually talk and debate this issue with them. P.S. Glenn Beck is the MAN!

Gravatar.com Allen,
I picked up your show about Glenn Beck's rally and Obama faith. You began expessing your hesitancy to discuss this subject and then began giving your listeners your qualifications to do so. For the next hour, you made a mess of both. If Mormons say they are Christians, they are Christian. Mormons, Catholics and Protestant believe in Jesus Christ, and His sacrifice for us. The worship process may be different, but the core is the same. As for Obama's belief, collective salvation, this is not what a Christian believes. Under this belief, a person can only be saved if the collective is saved. Not true. But amazingly, you tried to fit this in as the "far left side of Christianity". There is no far left or far right in being a Christian. God is in the center. He does not move to our beliefs, we move to His, He's God. And His instructions are chrystal clear, it's the Bible. The fear you seem to have with Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin talking about faith and having a politial agenda backfired on you. This is exactly what YOU DID trying to make Obama's belief fit being a Christian, you made faith political. You should of stuck with your first instincts, not to talk about it, because much was revealed about your knolwledge too. Also, how bad can it be for 500,000+ people to gather in the name of faith. Mr. Beck is not a minister, but he is well versed in the Bible and wanted to share his faith and experiences with people. Isn't this what the Bible calls us to do, share our personal relationship with Christ with our fellow man? So Republican, Demorcrat, or Independent was never a factor at the rally. That is your doing and anyone else who seems to be bewildered how a " God and Country loving media personality" has the ability to draw such an amazing crowd.
