I consider Pope John Paul II the greatest figure of the 20th century. John Paul II was, and is, a man of the people. During his papacy, he traveled to 129 countries spreading the truths and Christian values that governed his life. He shepherded a worldwide flock of 1 billion Catholic believers, and became immensely popular as a warm and earthy figure. Pope John Paul II was a driving force behind the fall of communism in Europe, improved relations between Christians and Jews, protecting the value and dignity of human life, and changing the world?s attitude regarding the moral and ethical issues of the day. In short, he was, and is, a great man. Men like him do not pass this way often.
