We are such blessed people to live in a free country and have so many of the good things around us. Beyond that we are even more blessed because of the unconditional love God offers us through His son Jesus Christ. As Thanksgiving rapidly approaches, and then moves on to Christmas with out a second thought, we are going to take a moment to step back and reflect on what it means to be thankful, and what we are thankful for.

Allen's Nine Tips to Enjoying the Holidays

1. Keep the expectations manageable - Don't overbuild the season in your mind
2. Serve other people, it will help you get out of yourself and discover generosity, hope and joy
3. Find ways to celebrate the past, but to look forward to the future
4. Remember that it is ok to be sad during the holidays - your sad memories are apart of you, just like your good memories.
5. Remember that alcohol depresses you, and will make sad feelings even worse
6. Take advantage of free holiday activities, keep your budget in check by going to free concerts and other free activities - don't buy into the idea that you have to spend money to have fun
7. Surround yourself with supportive and caring people, you do not have to spend the holidays with people who bring you down. Make good choices
8. Try something new - build new traditions
9. Give yourself the luxury of the day just for yourself and family - doing something you like to do (watching football, movies, starting a project, etc...)
