People can grow spiritually and politically.Boxing people in -it's OK. for Quakers to be anti-war and pacifists but no self respecting graduate of a naval academy could possibly ever have such a conversion- strikes me as more of this self-serving simplification of reality and of human beings.Just like the fort hood shooter was politizied by hearing soldiers talk about the atrocities they committed or wanted to commit and became anti-war - as their pyschiatrist he was in the belly of the beast listening to these soldiers tales of torture and murder of Muslims- [contrary to the self serving anti Muslim media propaganda he did not join the service as part of a sleeper alquada cell] -and when he spoke out about the wars in iraq and Afghanistan his commanders retaliated against his outspoken opposition to the wars by ordering him to go there which led him to retaliate against the soldiers who were killing people in iraq and Afghanistan and just as Timothy Mcveigh was politized by the U.S. Army when he witnessed Americans massacaring iraqi soldiers who had the white flag of surrender on their tanks- and realized that he had been manipulated and that what the Americans were doing is evil and turned against his government,, well people can change.
