Bumper Sticker Gets Teacher Fired

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

A teacher has been fired for having a bumper sticker - one of 30 - on her car that reads "Have you drugged your child today?" She says it is a critique of the over-medication of children in our society. And instead of applauding this woman as an articulate, opinionated, and thoughtful person, the school district fired her because some parents were offended. This is the problem with the education system these days. Any original thought gets squelched in order to maintain status quo.

Gravatar.com We are a nation of thin skinned hypocrites. Here we are ready to start world war three against Muslims because they still have blasphemy laws and get offended when their religion is desecrated. We tell them to come into the twenty first century and that the hall marks of an enlightened civilization [like ours] is that freedom of expression is sacrosant and there are no sacred cows. The more offensive the speech the more enlightened and free we show ourselves to be for tolerating it.Then we fire a teacher for having a bumper sticker that correctly exposes how gullable educators have been manipulated by the psychiatric profession to medicalize being a child in order have compluiant, controllable children. And the fact that the Westboro lawsuit was not thrown out by judges on the lower courts for being frivoluos [they never heard of freedom of expression-especially political expression] but actually reached the supreme court and that one supreme court justice actually believed the Westboro people did not have the right to express themselves is shocking and indicates that we are not quite what we claim to be.I recently learned that there are laws on the books that prohibit people from speaking "fighting words," i.e .speech that some people perceive as so offensive that they are an incitement to violence on the part of people who are offended and therefore is illigal. When did the government run that one by us and why was this law not front page news? And so who are we to cast aspersions at Muslims for having sensibilities and acting on them?
