Nebraska Wouldn't Let Mom Terminate Probably Dead Child

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Nebraska law wouldn't allow a mother - who with her doctor had good reason to believe her baby's lungs would never develop past 21 weeks - to terminate her child. And while that is a heart wrenching thing to have to go through and deserves an extreme amount of compassion, Nebraska is right in doing so. Because even if miracles happen rarely, it's still worth the risk when life is at stake.

Gravatar.com I agree. And the question of why someone would want to have an abortion because they are carrying a child who they are told will not live long is an important question. And by the way this wanting to terminate a life also occurs when people wish to euthanize adults who they are told are terminally ill or in vegetative states. But sticking to the issue of the woman wanting an abortion becuse of a diagnosis of non-viability of her fetus, to me suggests a strategy of dealing with a horrible, painful situation-being told that your baby will not live long or has major health problems] by taking a melodramatic course of action which will involve the laws and courts of the state.Logically it doesn't make sense to cause the death of someone because of a diaganosis that the person will not live long. And that you could call for the killiing of another innocent human being yet claim that life is a human right shows how out of touch with our own humanity and our own stated values many people are.You would think a person would cling to the hope that the diagnosis is false or even of a miracle. To do a 180 is baffling. If the person is a Christian or belongs to any faith, then it is appaling..Secular democracy can have a corrosive effect on spiritual beliefs. It's good that in this case the state of Nebraska conforms more to Christ [and the bill of rights] then the individual wanting an abortion does.
