Kids are our most valuable asset and our most sacred responsibility. Their spiritual foundations are formed by age 9 and pretty much set by age 12. If parents are not taking a proactive role in shaping their lives and minds, we are in real trouble. My wife and I have been very active at every moment of our children's lives to this point to be sure we know what they are doing, how they are doing it, and with whom. We also lift up real human interaction rather than mind-numbing video and computer time for 8 hours a day. Parking kids in front of a screen in their bedrooms, in the back seat of the car, and with the handset for any time in between is a great way to grow a kid who does not know how to relate to people or care about them or value anyone besides themselves. That is the easy way to not be inconvenienced by having kids. That is the point: having kids changes your life, they are a responsibility, not an inconvenience to be parked at every opportunity. Moreover, God values kids immeasurably. Jesus was clear about that. Parents, step up.
