Human Nature: Good or Evil?

In the 70s, there was a study done at Stanford University that came to the conclusion that human nature is basically evil. Many within the psychological community immediately tried to discredit it, but I think that it goes to show that human nature is essentially evil - just like the doctrine of original sin. So what do you think? What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you? What is the worst thing you have ever done to someone?
