Prosecuting Pranksters

Sunday, July 17, 2011

9/11 and Columbine changed things, and mostly for the worse. America, and particularly our education system, has lost a lot of our sense of humor and replaced it with skittish paranoia. Case in point: Tyell Watson. He now faces 2 to 8 years in prison for a high school prank that would have been laughed off 25 years ago. Worst of all, in body-slamming pranksters with felonies, we lose teachable moments and the opportunity to grow from mistakes. One word needs to be reintroduced: grace.
