Pardon Me, Mississippi

Governor Haley Barbour, in exiting his role in Mississippi, issued a bevy of pardons to more than 200 people. Most of those people have been out prison for some time, but 26 of them are still incarcerated, including 4 convicted murderers. This slew of grace has created an uproar among many Mississippians. They are wrong. Barbour not only had the right to forgive, it was the right thing to do. Giving governors this power to offer second chances is one way we humanize our justice system by offering measures of mercy and grace.
