Newtopian Evangelicals

Sunday, January 22, 2012

Newt Gingrich won handily in the South Carolina Republican primary. More surprisingly, he dominated in winning the vote of evangelical Christians. Given that Newt is a thrice-married Catholic, his evangelical support is remarkable. If I were interviewing Newt for a job, I would be impressed by his interview but decline to hire him due to his poor references from close former co-workers, his volatile marital and family past, his erratic performance as Speaker, and his lack of discipline in areas of his life revolving around appetite, both sexual and digestive. Newt presents well initially, but steadiness, focus and execution are not his strengths. He is not seeking forgiveness but rather a job promotion, to the highest office in the land. His volatility over the years making hiring him a big risk.
