The death penalty has existed, as an acceptable form of punishment, for certain heinous acts and crimes, for thousands of years. During most of written history, the common citizen has had the opportunity to view, and, in some instances, participate in, the carrying-out of the death penalty sentence. These days, America is struggling to reach a consensus on the death penalty. Since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, support for capital punishment has waned somewhat, while support for life without parole has increased. Is it ever right to take someone's life? God alone has the power and authority to create and take life. Should the death penalty exist?
