America is beset by many problems. Race relations is one that we still face today. Despite the looming presence of more pressing challenges, President Obama has marshalled the enormous prestige of his office to address the non-event of Prof. Henry Louis Gates jr.'s arrest culminating in a "beer summit" among Obama, Gates, and the officer that arrested the well-known Harvard professor. Is this a worthwhile use of the President's power? Does it even meaningfully address the real issue of race relations in a substantive way? In this hour we reflect upon race in America and how the President's leadership style fails to address the topic by taking such a trivial event and elevating it to the stature of an international incident. We look upon the President's reaction to discuss the qualities of good leadership and the need to have wisdom to choose one's battles carefully.
