Troy Davis has been on death row since 1991 for a murder he was found guilty of committing in 1989. Scheduled to die on several occasions, this past August 17th the US Supreme Court stepped in on behalf of Davis to ask the state of Georgia to reconsider the defendant's claim of innocence. Much of the testimony used to put Davis away originally has been recanted and no one is really sure of his ultimate guilt in the case. This got me to thinking. Have you ever been in a situation where you were innocent but there was no way to prove otherwise? In regards to our prison system, can we condemn people to death without ever being 100% sure of culpability? Is justice just if it punishes people based upon inconclusive, ambiguous evidence?
