Protesting The Pledge

Just this past week I found another case of the ACLU protesting the pledge, a group of high schoolers kicked out of a baseball game for not standing during "God Bless America," and an atheist throwing a fit about saying the pledge in class. While the baseball situation doesn't bother me as much, I still have to ask the question, do we not realize that our patriotism is what binds us together as Americans? Remove that thread and what do we have?
