Teen Sexting and Suicide

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

There was another case this week of a teenager - this time a 13-year old girl - who killed herself after a nude picture of herself she sent her boyfriend via text message was distributed to his friends. This is the second time this year this has happened and seems to be an increasing problem. But solving this problem goes beyond the sex talk. Join the conversation as we look at how to help our teens through a technology laced valley of temptation.

Gravatar.com This isssue is not only sad but horrible! It is also preventable! If things like this are happening then the parents of this country need to do something! They want to protect their teens, right? Then they need to step up and take some action against "sexting." Its not only the parents who have a responsiblilty to help, teachers, family members, friends, anyone the teen trusts can also help in preventing things like this happening again. It has to stop somewhere!! When will it end?? When three or four more teens are dead? Its not only fair to the parents of these teens but for the teens themselves, maybe if they felt they were supported, wanted, and loved they wouldn't feel like they have to result to things of this nature. I am not saying that they aren't loved or wanted, I am just saying that they want to feel wanted. I know what its like to feel unwanted, like you will never find that knight in shinning armor; then I think about the stresses and tears that I have gone through because I had a boyfriend and decide that its not worth and that life is just too short to worry about what boy likes you that week. Girls who give into boys and their one track minds just need reassurance that they are loved. They need to learn how to love and value themselves because they are worth more than any boy could ever make them feel.
